Commission Overview The purpose of the Shade Tree Commission is to manage, plant, and preserve trees on public rights-of-way and property within the Borough. By definition, a public shade tree includes all trees occupying a public place on all streets, and rights-of-way within the Borough. The duties of the Shade Tree Commission include, but are not limited to: Developing and maintaining ordinances and rules for public shade trees. Educate residents about proper tree care and the economic, environmental and health benefits of urban street trees. Review and issue permits for residents or contractors wanting to plant, trim, or remove street trees. Oversee routine maintenance of shade trees, including pruning, removal, and stump grinding. Plan and implement new tree plantings throughout the Borough. Permits must be obtained from the Shade Tree Commission before performing any maintenance (trimming and/or pruning), or before planting or removing any public shade tree located within the Borough of Hollidaysburg. Permits may be obtained from the Commission members at no charge by contacting any one of the Commission members or filling out an application at the Borough Office. Schedule of Meetings The Commission meets April to October on the second Tuesday of each month in Council Chambers of the Municipal Building at 4:30 p. m.
