Overview of Free Mediation Services in Blair County

Family Services Incorporated offers a free mediation process for landlords and tenants in Blair County. This service is designed as an alternative to filing for eviction, aiming to resolve disputes through communication rather than litigation.

Benefits of Mediation

Mediation provides a structured way for both parties to:

  • Address and resolve specific concerns.
  • Communicate naturally without the need for legal technicalities.
  • Recognize shared needs, such as housing stability for tenants and financial recovery for landlords.
  • Avoid the costs and negative impacts associated with court litigation.
  • Maintain an ongoing relationship through better communication.

Scope of Assistance

Mediators assist parties in addressing:

  • Back rent payments.
  • Payment plans.
  • Maintenance needs.
  • Preventing evictions.

How the Process Works

The mediation process follows these steps:

  • A trained, neutral third-party mediator facilitates the conversation.
  • Each person is given a chance to explain their point of view.
  • All parties jointly decide which issues need to be resolved.
  • Possible solutions are considered, and the best options are chosen.
  • In most cases, a written agreement is signed by all parties to conclude the mediation successfully.

Important Disclaimers

  • No Financial Guarantee: Participation in mediation does not guarantee financial assistance.
