May 2026 Tax Sale Updates

Public Sale Notices

A notice of Public Sale will be mailed via US Certified Mail, Restricted Delivery, RRR (Return Receipt Requested), postage prepaid. This applies to all property owners with delinquent taxes of two years or more.

Judicial Sale Petition Hearing

The hearing to finalize the Judicial Sale Petition will take place this month. Residents should contact the Tax Claim Bureau directly to obtain the specific date and time for this hearing.

Newspaper Advertisements

An advertisement regarding the upcoming sale will run in both the Altoona Mirror and the Blair County Legal Bulletin.

  • Sale Date: June 17, 2026 (Judicial Sale)
  • Fee: A fee of $150. 00 will be added to the cost of each property listed in the advertisement.

September Upset Sale Preparation

At the end of May, lists will be sent to the Posting Company for properties scheduled for the September Upset Sale.

  • Posting & Fees: Properties will be posted and fees assessed regardless of whether taxes are paid before the posting occurs.
  • Return & Claim Mailers: If a Return & Claim Mailer was not returned to the Tax Claim office, the property will be posted with a Return & Claim notice on the premises. This is required by law if the mailer was not signed for and returned.
  • Avoiding Posting: Property owners who did not sign for the mailer may visit the office to sign an affidavit to avoid having their property posted.

Courthouse Holidays

The courthouse will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2026.
