Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to serve, jurors must meet the following criteria (Item 1-3):

• Residency: Must be a resident of Blair County. Non-residents must update their address and will be excused.
• Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen.
• Language: Must be able to read, write, speak, or understand the English language.

Excusal and Rescheduling Categories

The document details specific conditions under which a juror may be excused or rescheduled:

• Deceased Juror (Item 4): If the summons is for a deceased person, contact the Jury Coordinator at 814-693-3058.
• Victim of Violent Crime (Item 5): If you or an immediate family member are a victim, mark YES and provide details. You will be rescheduled.
• Active Military (Item 6): Mark YES and provide deployment details to be excused.
• Age 75+ (Item 7): If over 75 and wishing to be excused, mark YES and enter your birthdate.
• Criminal Conviction (Item 8): If convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment of 1 year or more (and not pardoned/amnestied), mark YES and provide documentation. You are not eligible to serve.
• Full-Time Student (Item 9): Mark YES and provide documentation in the additional information section to be excused.
• Medical Issues (Item 10): If a physical or mental problem prevents service, you MUST submit a current medical statement signed by an attending physician.
• Transportation (Item 11): If you lack transportation to the courthouse, mark NO and you will be rescheduled.
• Caregiver (Item 12): If you care for someone requiring personal care with no alternative available without severe financial hardship, mark YES and provide details to be rescheduled.
• Essential Employee (Item 13): If your company would suffer if you served, mark YES and provide employer documentation.
• Undue Hardship (Item 14): Includes financial distress, having served in the past two years, prepaid non-refundable vacations, or other hardships.

Notification

• Excused jurors will be notified via their preferred contact method (email/text) as soon as a decision is made.
