Contaminant Monitoring Results
The following table summarizes the detected contaminants, their levels, and whether they violated safety standards.
| Contaminant | MCL / Action Level | Detected Level | Unit | Violation? | Source of Contamination |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nitrate (EP 101) | 10 ppm | 2. 22 | PPM | No | Agricultural Run Off |
| Barium (EP 101) | 2 ppm | 0. 243 | mg/l | No | Erosion of Natural Deposit |
| Chlorine | 4. 0 ppm | 1. 28 | PPM | No | Water additive to control microbes |
| Trihalomethanes | 80 ppb | 11. 80 | PPB | No | By-product of drinking water chlorination |
| Haloacetic | 0. 060 mg/L | 0. 004 | MG/L | No | By-product of drinking water chlorination |
| Chlorine (Entry Point) | 0. 40 ppm min | 0. 83 | ppm | No | Water additive used to control microbes |
| Lead | 15 ppb (Action Level) | 11. 40 (90th %ile) | ppb | No | Corrosion of household plumbing |
| Copper | 1. 3 ppm (Action Level) | 0. 105 (90th %ile) | ppm | No | Corrosion of household plumbing |
Note: The EPA's MCL for fluoride is four ppm, but Pennsylvania has set a lower MCL to better protect human health.
Lead and Copper Information
- Lead Risk: Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. The utility cannot control the variety of materials used in private home plumbing.
- Mitigation Steps: Residents are advised to flush pipes for several minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. Filters certified by the American National Standards Institute can also be used to reduce lead.
- Service Line Inventory: The Authority has prepared an inventory of service line materials, which can be accessed online or by contacting the office at 814-793-3213.
Health Advisory
Certain groups may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. These include:
- Persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy
- Organ transplant recipients
- People with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders
- Some elderly individuals
- Infants
These individuals should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on lessening the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800-426-4791).
