Service Transition Announcement

The Altoona Logan Township Mobile Medical Emergency Department Authority (AMED) is pleased to announce that they will begin providing primary emergency medical services (EMS) to Martinsburg Borough, effective January 1, 2026. This transition replaces the Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service (HALAS).

Key Dates and Membership Changes

  • January 1, 2026: AMED officially assumes EMS responsibilities.
  • December 31, 2025: HALAS memberships will expire.
  • Action Required: Residents are advised not to renew their HALAS membership for 2026. Instead, they are encouraged to purchase an AMED membership to ensure continued coverage starting January 1.

Service Continuity and Locations

  • No Disruption: AMED assures residents there will be absolutely no interruption in emergency medical services during the transition.
  • Martinsburg Station: AMED ambulances will respond from the current Martinsburg EMS station located at 303 West Allegheny Street, Martinsburg, PA 16662.
  • Roaring Spring Station: AMED will continue to operate their existing EMS station in Roaring Spring.
  • Emergency Calls: Residents should continue to dial 911 for all medical emergencies. Blair County’s 911 dispatch system will automatically coordinate responses with AMED.

AMED Membership Costs and Benefits

AMED offers a 12-month rolling membership that starts on the date of payment. The membership covers 100% of your deductible and copay with an unlimited number of uses during the year.
