Meeting Overview

The Tyrone Borough Council held its regular monthly meeting on January 12, 2026, at the Tyrone Borough Municipal Building (1100 Logan Avenue). The meeting began with an invocation by Pastor Ron Baker and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor Harlow.

Attendees:

  • Council Members Present: Robert Dollar, Sarah Hunter, Ken Patterson, Bridgette Gill, Tammy Wills, William Wiser, and Mayor Harlow.
  • Staff Present: Interim Borough Manager Kimberly Gurekovich, Solicitor Dan Stants, Chief of Police Jes Walk, Sewer Superintendent Jason Harris, Water Superintendent Donnie Shultz, and Kim LaRosa.

Key Decisions & Reports

Approval of Minutes

  • December 8, 2025 Minutes: Approved via roll call vote. Council members Gill, Hunter, Patterson, Wills, and Wiser voted Ayes; Mayor Harlow voted Nayes.
  • January 5, 2026 Minutes: Approved unanimously.

Financial Reports

The Council unanimously approved the financial reports for the monthly accounting period ending December 31, 2025. This included:

  • The Account Balance Report
  • Statement of Revenues and Expenses
  • Cash Disbursement Journal

Vacant Council Seat

Former Council member Rob Poust did not accept his seat. The Council unanimously moved to declare the seat vacant and advertise for interested persons.

  • Resolution No 2026-01: The Council unanimously approved the resolution to vacate Rob Poust’s Council seat.

Projects Out for Bid

Two projects have been advertised and bids will be accepted on February 6, 2026. The Council expects to award these bids at the February 9 meeting:

  • Lincoln Avenue Storm Sewer Project: Located near MAG Industries.
  • Parking Lot Improvements: Located behind the First Responder’s Park and VFW.

Departmental Reports

  • Water Department: Superintendent Don Shultz reported that the department is changing out water meters. Residents who have not been contacted should call the Borough office. The service is free, and new meters are necessary to prevent inaccurate billing as old meters reach the end of their life expectancy.
  • Other Departments: The Council received monthly reports from the Consulting Engineer (Rettew’s Engineering), Code Enforcement (Mr. Hanzir), Police Department (Chief Walk), Sewer Department (Mr. Harris), and Highway Department (Mr. Desch).

Miscellaneous

  • Christmas Tree Pickup: Scheduled for every Monday in January.
  • Reservoir Park Reservations: Begin on January 15, 2026.
