Overview
The Williamsburg Municipal Authority (WMA) has released its 2022 Consumer Confidence Report. This document details the quality of drinking water provided to approximately 756 customers in Williamsburg Borough and portions of Catherine and Woodbury Townships. The water source is groundwater drawn from the Gatesburg Aquifer via three production wells located in Woodbury Township.
Water Source and Infrastructure
- Source: Groundwater from the Gatesburg Aquifer.
- Location: Three production wells located along Briarwood Lane, south of the intersection of Sage Hill Drive and Taylor Street.
- Treatment: The only required treatment is disinfection via the addition of chlorine.
- Capacity: The system is permitted to supply up to 1,440,000 gallons per day.
- Usage in 2022: The system provided an average of 129,244 gallons per day (47,174,060 total gallons).
Contaminant Monitoring Results
The WMA reports that no violations occurred in 2022. The following regulated contaminants were detected:
Disinfectants and By-Products
- Chlorine: Detected at levels ranging from 1. 2 to 2. 12 ppm.
- TTHMs (Total Trihalomethanes): Detected at 12. 5 ppb.
- HAA (Haloacetic Acids): Detected at 5. 82 ppb.
Inorganic Contaminants
- Nitrate: Detected at 1. 37 ppm (Limit: 10 ppm).
- Barium: Detected at 0. 0357 ppm (Limit: 2 ppm).
Lead and Copper
- Lead: The 90th percentile value was 10. 7 ppb (Action Level: 15 ppb). No sites exceeded the action limit.
- Copper: The 90th percentile value was 0. 118 ppm (Action Level: 1. 3 ppm). No sites exceeded the action limit.
Health and Safety Information
- Vulnerable Populations: The report notes that individuals with compromised immune systems (e. g. , cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients), the elderly, and infants may be at higher risk from microbial contaminants.
- Lead Exposure: While lead levels were within legal limits, the report advises flushing taps for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before use if water has been sitting for several hours.
- Microbial Contaminants: Total coliform bacteria were tested and not detected in the distribution system.
