Overview

This document is the 2021 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report for the Duncansville Municipal Authority (PWSID: 4070012). It details the quality of water provided to residents, including source information, monitoring results for chemical contaminants, and safety guidelines.

Water Source

  • Primary Source: Groundwater well located north of the Borough of Duncansville.
  • Emergency Connections: The Authority maintains two emergency connections to the Altoona Water Authority’s municipal water system. One is near the Duncansville supply well, and the other is in Allegheny Township, Blair County.

Contaminant Monitoring Results

The Authority monitored for contaminants between January 1 and December 31, 2021. All detected levels were within state and federal safety limits (no violations).

Chemical Contaminants

  • Trihalomethanes (TTHMs): Detected at 6. 7 ppb (Limit: 80). Source: Byproduct of chlorination.
  • Distribution Chlorine: Detected between 0. 51 – 0. 76 ppm (Limit: 4). Source: Water additive to control microbes.
  • Haloacetic Acids (five): Detected at 0 ppb (Limit: 60). Source: Byproduct of chlorination.
  • Barium: Detected at 0. 0381 ppm (Limit: 2). Source: Erosion of natural deposits; drilling wastes.
  • Arsenic: Detected at 0 ppb (Limit: 10). Source: Erosion of natural deposits; runoff from orchards/glass production.
  • Selenium: Detected at 0 ppb (Limit: 50). Source: Erosion of natural deposits; discharge from mines.
  • Nitrate: Detected at 2. 01 ppm (Limit: 10). Source: Runoff from fertilizer use; septic fields.

Disinfectant Residuals

  • Chlorine: Minimum residual was 0. 5 ppm; detected levels ranged from 0. 68 – 0. 76 ppm.

Other Findings

  • Fluoride: The Authority does not add fluoride to its water. Pennsylvania sets a lower MCL (4 ppm) than the EPA for better health protection.
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Sampling conducted in 2021 resulted in no detections.

Health & Safety Information

  • Lead: Lead primarily enters water from service lines and home plumbing. Residents are advised to flush taps for 30 seconds to 2 minutes if water has been sitting for several hours.
  • Vulnerable Populations: Individuals with cancer, undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, the elderly, and infants may be more vulnerable to contaminants. They should consult healthcare providers for advice on drinking water safety.
  • Resources: For more information on lead or microbial contaminants, residents can contact the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791) or visit the EPA website.
