Overview
The Duncansville Municipal Authority (PWSID #4070012) has released its 2020 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report. The report details the quality of water provided to residents, including chemical contaminant levels and sources of contamination.
Water Source
- Primary Source: Groundwater well located north of the Borough of Duncansville.
- Emergency Connections: The Authority maintains two emergency connections to the Altoona Water Authority’s municipal water system. One is near the Duncansville supply well, and the other is in Allegheny Township, Blair County.
Chemical Contaminant Results
The following table summarizes the detected chemical contaminants for 2020. All results were within regulatory limits (Violation Y/N: N).
| Contaminant | Level Detected | MCL/MRDL Limit | Units | Sample Date | Source of Contamination |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) | 7. 98 | 80 | ppb | 8/12/2020 | Byproduct of drinking water chlorination disinfection |
| Distribution Chlorine | 0. 53 | MRDL = 4 | ppm | 2020 | Water additive used to control microbes |
| Haloacetic acids (five) | 2. 71 | 60 | ppb | 8/12/2020 | Byproduct of drinking water chlorination disinfection |
| Barium | 0. 049 | 2 | ppm | 8/08/2018 | Erosion of natural deposits; discharge from drilling wastes |
| Arsenic | 0. 304 | 10 | ppb | 8/08/2018 | Erosion of natural deposits; runoff from orchards, glass, and electronics production wastes |
| Selenium | 1. 43 | 50 | ppb | 8/08/2018 | Erosion of natural deposits; discharge from mines |
| Nitrate | 1. 805 | 10 | ppm | 3/09/2020 & 8/05/2020 | Runoff from fertilizer use; leaching from septic fields; erosion of natural deposits |
Note: The Authority does not add fluoride to its water.
Disinfectant Residuals
- Chlorine: The lowest level detected was 0. 62 ppm, with a range of 0. 62 – 0. 76 ppm. The minimum required residual was 0. 5 ppm.
Other Information
- Lead: The report advises that lead in drinking water primarily comes from service lines and home plumbing. Residents are advised to flush their tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking if it has been sitting for several hours.
- Organic Compounds: During 2020, the Authority tested for synthetic organic compounds (SOCs) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). No detections were found for either category.
