Overview
This document is the 2018 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report for the Duncansville Municipal Authority (PWSID: 4070012). It details the quality of water provided to residents, sourced primarily from groundwater wells located north of the Borough of Duncansville.
Water Source
- Primary Source: Groundwater wells.
- Location: The well and water treatment plant are located north of the Borough of Duncansville.
- Emergency Connections: The Authority maintains two emergency connections to the Altoona Water Authority’s municipal water system. One is near the Duncansville supply well, and the other is in Allegheny Township, Blair County.
Contaminant Monitoring Results
The Authority monitored for contaminants between January 1 and December 31, 2018. All detected levels were within state and federal safety limits (Violation Y/N: N).
Chemical Contaminants
- Trihalomethanes (TTHMs): Detected at 10. 3 ppb (Limit: 80). Source: Byproduct of chlorination.
- Distribution Chlorine: Detected at 0. 87 ppm (Limit: 4). Source: Water additive to control microbes.
- Haloacetic acids (five): Detected at 1. 15 ppb (Limit: 60). Source: Byproduct of chlorination.
- Barium: Detected at 0. 049 ppm (Limit: 2). Source: Erosion of natural deposits/drilling wastes.
- Arsenic: Detected at 0. 304 ppb (Limit: 10). Source: Runoff from orchards/glass production.
- Selenium: Detected at 1. 43 ppb (Limit: 50). Source: Erosion of natural deposits/mines.
- Nitrate: Detected at 2. 05 ppm (Limit: 10). Source: Fertilizer use/septic fields.
Disinfectant Residuals
- Chlorine: Maintained a minimum residual of 0. 5 ppm, with detected levels ranging from 0. 6 to 0. 81 ppm.
Other Testing
- Fluoride: The Authority does not add fluoride to the water. Pennsylvania sets a lower MCL (4 ppm) than the EPA to better protect health.
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Quarterly sampling was conducted in 2018. There were no detections of VOCs in the water supply.
Health Advisory: Lead
Lead in drinking water primarily comes from service lines and home plumbing materials. The Authority cannot control these components but provides high-quality water.
- Risk Groups: Pregnant women, young children, and immuno-compromised persons are at higher risk.
- Precaution: If water has sat for several hours, flush the tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before use.
